Who we are

No Bully® is a California-based 501(c)(3) non-profit with trainers across the U.S. We were founded free of any special interest and advocate for the ending of bullying and harassment of every student, whatever the cause. Our vision is to restore school as a place where students integrate the pursuit of their individual potential with kindness and compassion for all.

Nicholas CarlisleNicholas Carlisle, MFT is a child therapist and the executive director of No Bully. Having experienced firsthand the reality of bullying in the middle years at school, he is committed to creating school cultures where every child feels included and valued by their peers. Nicholas graduated with a bachelors and masters degree from Oxford University, qualified as a lawyer with a human rights focus and was chairman of the non-profit section of Amnesty International in Britain. He researched with Professor Eric Rofes the effects of school bullying (published in 2007 in the Journal of Traumatology). Nicholas is a seasoned workshop leader, keynote speaker, conference presenter and commentator on school bullying for NPR and other radio stations across the country. Moira DeNikeMoira DeNike, Ph.D. is a native of San Francisco. She is a product of public education and believes that every child deserves high-quality public educational and enrichment services.  She holds a doctorate in sociology and works to evaluate the impact of gang intervention, youth development, conflict resolution, after school enrichment, and specialized educational programs in several Bay Area public school districts.

Kathy GreyKathy Grey is our operations manager and lead trainer. She has been a community advocate in Marin County for more than fifteen years, working with educators, parents, and children from kindergarten through high school. She has served on many educational boards and committees, has been a dedicated member and leader of her local PTA, and continues to volunteer with schools and non-profits. She is passionate about our youth, believing firmly that we build a healthy, strong community by empowering the younger generation and ensuring that they are given every opportunity to succeed. Prior to her work in education, Kathy was an arbitrator working in conflict resolution, resolving internal grievances for a major US airline.

Karen JunkerKaren Junker is a long-time teacher, a certified trainer in restorative circles by the International Institute for Restorative Practices, and is trained in the use of Positive Psychology in the classroom. Karen has BAs in Philosophy and Mathematics, and a Masters of Divinity. Her life’s work has been dedicated to creating communities where everyone feels safe, included, respected and valued. She divides her time between teaching, training for No Bully and coordinating the School Culture and Climate Program at a large urban public school in San Rafael, California.

Lynn MurphyLynn Murphy has been involved in education for the last 20 years. She began her career as a physical education teacher and coach and witnessed first hand, the harmful effects of bullying on the school yard. She began a private coaching business to help boys develop their physical skills in order to develop their self-confidence. Lynn has worked with at-risk youth involved in the juvenile justice system, doing individual and family therapy to help youth and their families break out of unhealthy patterns. Lynn received her B.A. from Columbia University, her M.A. in Education from Pepperdine University and her M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Dominican University. In her life prior to teaching, she appeared as a stunt woman on American Gladiators.

T O'RourkeT O’Rourke has taught interpersonal communication, small group dynamics, critical thinking, interviewing, and public speaking courses at San Diego area colleges and universities — University of San Diego, San Diego State University, Grossmont College and Miramar College. He holds a MA in Communication Studies from SDSU, with peer-reviewed research presented and published internationally. T has worked with corporate and non-profit organizations, both managing marketing campaigns and conducting internal communication development programs. He has also participated in high school outreach programs designed to reduce violence directed at GLBT youth, and is a past recipient of the International Communication Association award for teacher excellence.

Sherri PattersonSherri Patterson, MFT is Founder and Director of the Center for Social Skills, a Marin County resource for children's social issues. She has been both a credentialed teacher and school counselor, working with schools with children from a wide variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. She is the author of NoNo the Little Seal, a child abuse prevention book, several educational videos for teens by Brittanica Films, as well as the Touch Safety Program and other SEL curricula. She is also the creator of Chocolate Moose and Friends, the highly regarded social skill-building puppet show series for children. Sherri holds a life-long interest in violence prevention, conflict resolution, and social-emotional education.

Meg SandersMeg Sanders is a 30-year veteran educator, spanning kindergarten through college level; the coordinator of the conflict resolution program (CREST) for all schools in the County of Santa Clara for ten years; and a life-long student communication processes. Meg is passionate about empowering students to speak up for themselves while caring for the feelings of others; and is ardent about supporting teachers in creating respectful, caring classrooms. She is an experienced trainer in Community Mediation for the County of Santa Clara; is certified in Powerful Non-Defensive Communication and Success Signals (a communication styles training); and is co-author of Community Boards Middle School Conflict Manager guide. Helping teachers realize that students can become wise and empathic problem solvers is what keeps her feeling hopeful about life.

Lori SchwanbeckLori Schwanbeck, MFT is a licensed psychotherapist who has worked with children in many settings including individual and family psychotherapy, skills groups, and in the classroom. She has run conflict resolution programs for middle schools. Her work with children is aimed at helping them learn emotional intelligence. This focus encourages children to trust themselves and take responsibility for their emotions and how they act on them. Children also learn the impact their emotional expression has on others and on their relationships.

The Living Arts Playback Theatre Ensemble is a non-profit, created in 1986 under the direction of psychotherapist and drama therapist Armand Volkas. This company of actors and musicians has established itself as an innovative local and national resource for transformation through drama.

 



Board Members

Christina D. CobbChristina D. Cobb is a capital markets and asset management specialist with The United States Treasury Department, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Prior to joining the OCC, she managed investment portfolios and provided asset management consultation to high net-worth individuals, institutions, foundations and endowments. Throughout her career, Ms. Cobb has held portfolio management positions at several financial institutions including Prudential Securities, Morgan Stanley, Ernst & Young, HSBC Bank and an affiliate of Boston Private Bank Financial Holdings, Inc. She earned a BA degree, with honors, from New York University and a JD from Boston College Law School where she was an articles editor for The Third World Law Journal. She has served on numerous boards and governing committees including The Greater Boston Food Bank, The Human Rights Campaign, The National Black Justice Coalition and The Fenway Community Health Center. Christina is a CPWA® professional.

Philip JonckheerPhilip Jonckheer, CFA, Treasurer of No Bully, is Managing Director of Equius Partners, a graduate of Harvard University (B.A. General Studies, Cum Laude), and Stanford University (MBA in Finance from the Business School, and Masters in Administration and Policy Analysis from the School of Education). Phil is a board member of four organizations: Alchemia, a non-profit serving people with developmental disabilities through the arts, dance and theater; Project Redwood, a non-profit partnership formed by his business school class that applies a venture-philanthropy approach to funding, mentoring, and coaching individuals and organizations that provide solutions to alleviate the causes and effects of poverty; the Equius Foundation, of which he is Chairman; and Tamalpais Aquatic Masters, his local masters swim club.

Steve WeitzSteve Weitz is Chair of No Bully. Steve is Manager of Learning & Development at Abbott Laboratories (ABT, NYSE), a global, broad-based health care company devoted to discovering new medicines, new technologies and new ways to manage health. Steve was Director at Thought Velocity/Aventis, a customer relationship management consulting firm, from 1993 to 2001. He holds a Master of Science in Organization Development from the University of San Francisco and BA from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Silvia Vasquez-LavadoSilvia Vasquez-Lavado is Senior Manager of Finance at eBay. As a seasoned global finance executive she has had a diverse array of positions and just recently spent four years living in Bern and Berlin. Silvia and her family have a nonprofit (Gracias Foundation) assisting local communities in the Peruvian Andes developing socially conscious businesses and is also supporting the reintegration of former Child soldiers in the DRC Congo. Silvia holds a BA from Millersville University of Pennsylvania and was a recipient of the IIE/Fulbright scholarship for her studies

Dr. Peter WilliamsonDr. Peter Williamson, Ph.D is an assistant professor of teacher education in the School of Education at the University of San Francisco. Formerly the Director of Stanford’s Teachers for a New Era project and an instructor in the Stanford Teacher Education Program, Peter completed his Ph.D. at Stanford in Curriculum and Teacher Education. Peter taught middle and high school English and journalism in Bay Area schools, and worked with multiple San Francisco agencies focusing on advocacy for urban and underserved youth.
